Bushfire Protection course visits the Blue Mountains

Bushfire Protection course visits the Blue Mountains

Students in the Bushfire Fighting at the University of Western Sydney enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Bushfire Protection course visited the Blue Mountains yesterday to expand their knowledge.

In this subject they cover bushfire fighting elements as they apply to fire-fighters protecting property, the Prepare, Act, Survive mantra and practicalities for bushland area dwellers, and the management measures that apply as a consequence of Public Safety responsibility.

Approximately 12 came on the field trip and met with RFS and Blue Mountains City Council staff.

The students took the opportunity to look at and appreciate interface HR and APZs, they inspected dwellings where the bushfire risk has engendered special construction standards, and looked at an urban HR situation (NSWF&R) and examined a CFU situation.

Inspections occurred at a HR site at Yoogali Terrace, Blaxland and an APZ site at Lalor Dr, Springwood.
